I consider it a great blessing to be entering my 13th year at St. Louis King of France School, a school under the guidance and protection of one of the most remarkable saints in the history of our great Church. Saint Louis King of France was a Crusader! He asked God for courage, light, and strength to use his authority well, uphold the divine honor, defend the Church, and serve the good of his people. I pray that God continues to lead me the way He led Saint Louis throughout his courageous journeys in life.
Please join me in welcoming our new pastor, Father Mark S. Raphael, Ph.D. I am so excited to have him join our SLKF community and invite you to our opening school mass on Friday, August 25 to celebrate the St. Louis King of France Feast Day with our students and teachers, myself, and Father Mark.
I am also thrilled to introduce Stacie Bourgeois as our new Early Childhood Director. I know she is looking forward to meeting all the Little Crusaders parents at their orientation on Thursday, August 10.
I would like to thank you for your continued support and dedication to SLKF. Due to your generosity, we were able to provide our faculty with a salary increase again this year. We have purchased new stage curtains for the Lorio Center and were able to renovate the bathrooms in Blanche Hall. There are new air conditioners in the Lorio Center as well as in all school buildings. Our PK3 classes will have a new curriculum this year, and will also start the year with SMARTboards in their classrooms, giving all students in grades PK3 through 7th access to this amazing technology. And finally, all students in Kindergarten through 7th grade will have new Social Studies textbooks.
Our calendar for the upcoming year has a few new events that I am especially looking forward to. On Saturday, September 16, we will have an old-fashioned SLKF Family Picnic at Pontiff Playground. We will also hold a Trick or Trunk celebration on Friday, October 27 for all SLKF families. We have also scheduled a Father-Daughter Dance on Saturday, December 2 and a Mother-Son Tea on Sunday, April 15. We have moved the Bucktown Seafood Festival to the weekend of November 3, and our spring fundraiser will be held on Saturday, January 20 – the Winter Gala! We hope that you can join us at all these fun, family events that benefit us all in so many ways.
In April 2018, we look forward to our Five Year AdvancED Engagement Review. More information on this will be forthcoming.
On our school website, www.slkfschool.com, under 2017-2018 Information, you will find valuable information in preparation for the beginning of the school year, including our school calendar, student handbook, carpool map, and other important documents. Also included on the website are two forms to be signed by parents and turned in on the first day of school – the handbook signature page and photo release consent form. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call the school office.
